THE DEVELOPMENT OF PUBLIC PARKING LOTS INTO AFFORDABLE WORKFORCE HOUSING WOULD PROVIDE MANY BENEFITS AND DEMONSTRATE OUR COMMUNITY'S COMMITMENT TO HOUSING BY UTILIZING PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS TO ADDRESS THE CRITICAL NEED FOR HOUSING. TRANSIT ORIENTED DESIGN ON THE CITY'S SURFACE PARKING LOTS WOULD BE A PUBLIC BENEFIT AND THE BEST USE OF CITY-OWNED LAND.

DENSE APPROPRIATE URBAN HOUSING COULD TRANSFORM THE AREA AROUND SANTA BARBARA’S TRANSIT CENTER INTO A VIBRANT DOWNTOWN NEIGHBORHOOD. REIMAGINING CITY-OWNED PARKING LOTS INTO MIXED USE TRANSIT-ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT (TOD) WOULD MAINTAIN THE EXISTING PARKING, WHILE ALSO IMAGINING SO MUCH MORE… NOT ONLY PARKING, BUT POSSIBILITIES SUCH AS A PRESCHOOL, A TRANSIT CAFÉ ON A SMALL PLAZA, INTERCONNECTED PASEOS, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY - HOUSING - OUR GREATEST NEED..
